Melanie Russell Mosaic Artist

I work from my home & garden studio in the beautiful county of Rutland, England. My style of mosaic making is known as 'pique assiette' (which translates as 'stolen from plates') or 'memory ware'. It is the ultimate form of recycling for anyone who appreciates seeing vintage china reimagined as a piece of art.

As well as making and selling my art, I teach this mosaic method at various local providers. My next workshop is at Rutland Garden Village in Ashwell, Rutland - to book, click here - and there are other dates being planned so do contact me if you'd like more details.

In addition, I offer year-round bespoke workshops from my home studio on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays. This is a lovely way to spend the day with like-minded folk - or, as one recent participant described it, "... a fabulous day... a real creative escape!".

It also means I can offer my extensive collection of vintage china for participants to choose from (rather than limiting what I can carry to a workshop elsewhere), plus the use of my cutting and grinding machines for precision work. The ideal group number is 4-6 people, although I could stretch to 8. Craft hen parties are welcome, for instance, or groups of friends/colleagues. Minimum group size is two; this option is popular for mums & daughters or best mates spending creative time together.

Lunch plus refreshments & cake are included. The timings would be by agreement, but something like 9.30/10 to 4ish. I offer various standard base templates for participants to work on, as well as being open to creating new designs or supporting personal projects. The cost for this full day workshop is £65 per person. If this is of interest, do contact me for a discussion via the links on this site. If you would like to gift a workshop experience to someone else, I am happy to send a voucher.

I take part in selected artisan craft fairs including those hosted by Country Living magazine. I am featured in BCTF - British Craft Trade Fair. I am involved with Makers' Mews, an artists' collective based in Stamford, and I recently exhibited at their event at Browne's Hospital, Stamford. Later in the year I plan to attend a range of Christmas events including those at Rutland Garden Village. I will be exhibiting at both of the exclusive Mercatum Markets at Haddon Hall (17-20 November & 1-4 December) - click here to book your ticket(s)
